Every 65 seconds someone in the United States is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Our mission is to promote healthy lifestyles to combat the onset of Alzheimer’s Disease. With physical activity playing a crucial role, running and walking are the simplest forms.

Who Was Tom Lottes?
Tom lived in the Madison area his entire life and loved his family, watching the Green Bay Packers, spending time outdoors, being a plumber, listening and dancing to music, walking his dog Cora, being part of the community, and helping others. Tom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease shortly after his 50th birthday and passed away at the age of 57. Tom was never defined by Alzheimer’s disease and lived life to the best of his abilities the last few years attending a Korn concert, rooting for the Milwaukee Brewers, visiting Wisconsin state parks, and spending time with his family. The 65 in 24 Alzheimer’s Awareness Run is in memory of Tom and all the joy he brought to the world and everyone he knew.
The Tom Lottes 65 in 24 Alzheimer’s Awareness run is when a few crazy people get together to run laps around the Wisconsin State Capitol until they reach 65 miles, hopefully in less than 24 hours. This distance usually ends up being roughly 120 laps, starting at 12 AM of December 30th and ending at 12 AM of December 31st. This provides more than enough time for any runner to complete the 65 miles, or any distance they feel comfortable accomplishing, in 24 hours. You are also welcomed to run/walk as a team to add up your total miles to 65 or even ride your bike around the square the day of the race. Any form of physical activity at any distance is good for the mind and body, so we hope to see you out on the square this December 30th.
What is 65 in 24?!?!
The 65 in 24 run takes place every December 30th, and has reached its donation goal every year. This is due to the growing awareness of the run and community involvement.
Previous Runs and Donations
All are welcome to participate in their own way. Whether that’s walking or running any distance of your choosing on December 30th, donating to the Alzheimer's Association, or sharing the 65 in 24 run with friends and family.
